NÄRA is a handmade memorial and candle holder in stoneware. Designed to remain at the heart of your home – a place where you can light a candle and let the memory of your friend continue to spread warmth, instead of the ashes remaining hidden away in a cupboard.

  • A quiet ritual

NÄRA is designed with an integrated candle holder, created to allow for a daily ritual. Lighting a candle becomes a way to pause and let the memory of your friend take place in the light.

  • Handwritten memory

Every piece is uniquely wheel-thrown for you. As part of my personal service, I offer a handwritten inscription with your pet's name and years of life on the inside of the lid.

  • Natural materials

Each urn includes a soft pouch made of pure linen with a drawstring—a gentle casing to protect what we hold most dear.

Why NÄRA?

When words are not enough, the hands take over.

I remember the day it was time to say goodbye to Bosse. He wasn’t just a dog; he was a family member, a source of comfort, a constant companion—always close. When the emptiness followed, so did the question: Where should he rest now?

I received a simple box, but it felt so foreign. It didn’t feel worthy of him, nor beautiful enough to keep on display. The thought of burying him in the cold, dark, and wet earth was unbearable. Bosse hated the cold. He always wanted to be where it was warmest, close to us, in the heart of our home. I wanted a true home for him.

I realized I wasn't alone when I heard:

"The ashes have been sitting on a dusty shelf since 2009 because I haven't found the right place."

As a ceramicist and designer, it felt natural to let my hands seek the answer in the clay. I wanted to create something that didn't just store ashes, but carried a light. An object so beautiful it deserved a place in the home, on the windowsill or the bookshelf, not as a reminder of death, but as a tribute to life.

That is how NÄRA was born. It is crafted in stoneware to be enduring, just like our memories. Inspired by nature's protective forms, the seed pods that preserve what is most precious.

By lighting a candle, a quiet ritual is created; a moment where we let our missed friends continue to spread warmth in our homes.

"Bosse is no longer cold. He is home and close."

Have the ashes been sitting in a closet?

You are not alone. Many of us can’t bring ourselves to bury the ashes in the cold ground, and the transport box ends up tucked away in a cabinet. →Read my blog post on why you shouldn’t feel guilty, and how to create a living memorial at home.

Angelica

"Finally a proper place... the ashes have been sitting on a dusty shelf since 2009."

Ann

"I’m so glad we didn’t bury them at a house I ended up leaving. Right now they’re still living in the garage 😂, at least it's warm there. This feels like a much more beautiful way to keep them with us."

FAQ

Have questions?

How does it work?

My goal is to make this process as reassuring and caring as possible, whether your loss is recent or if you have been searching for the right place for your friend’s ashes for a long time:

Ordering: Choose the size that best fits your friend.

Personal Inscription: At checkout, enter your friend’s name and years of life in the message field.

The Craft: I hand-carve the name on the inside of the lid before the urn undergoes its final firing.

Delivery: Your urn is sent carefully packaged. Included in the package is a personal greeting from me and a bag made of natural linen for a gentle handling of the ashes.

How do I choose a size?

Since the volume of ashes varies, I have developed three sizes to accommodate everything from the smallest friend to the largest family member:

Small (approx. 0.5 liters): Suitable for hamsters, birds, or if you only wish to keep a small portion of the ashes.

Medium (approx. 1.5–2 liters): The standard size, fitting most cats and smaller dog breeds.

Large (approx. 3.5–4 liters): Designed for larger dog breeds.

Materials & function

Material: Durable and beautiful stoneware with a matte, tactile surface.

Function: The lid features an integrated holder designed for a standard taper candle.

Uniqueness: As each piece is hand-thrown, slight variations in shape and glaze may occur, making your urn completely unique.

Care instructions

Material: Durable and beautiful stoneware with a matte glaze.

Care: Wipe with a damp cloth. If candle wax has dripped onto it, scrape gently with a wooden or plastic tool. Using metal tools may leave dark marks on the surface.

How do I fill the urn?

  1. Prepare your workspace: Place a clean cloth or a sheet of newspaper on a stable surface to catch any residue.
  2. Prepare the bag: Open the drawstring of the linen bag and place it inside the urn.
  3. Transfer the ashes: Carefully pour the ashes into the linen bag and close it by pulling the drawstring.
  4. Check for residue: After the transfer, carefully check the newspaper or cloth for any remaining ashes. Use a clean, dry spoon or a small funnel to gently collect and return these to the urn or bag.
  5. Secure the lid: Place the lid so that it fits securely.
  6. Place: Your urn is now ready to be displayed. Place a taper candle in the top, light it, and remember your friend.
